“Walking brings me peace,
Photography gives me purpose and connection.”

Black and White Photography by Mark Weekes

Walking With Pics is my home for black and white photography and writing.

My work centres on an honest, unfiltered approach to capturing the world in monochrome. Documenting the real, working, walked-through version of the world. No over-processed tricks. No golden hour chasing. No hunting ‘honeypot’ locations. No pleasing algorithms - just capturing what stands out to me, whether I'm on a familiar muddy lane down the road or lost in the geometry of a foreign backstreet.

I don’t use high-spec setups, favouring character-filled older digital and film gear. No heavy bags—just the camera, and my goldendoodle Elvis along for the walk.

This site is an open invitation to slow down, look a little longer, and find a moment of quiet. Explore the galleries, read a blog or browse the store and book.

Welcome to my black and white
world.

The countryside will always be part of who I am as a photographer, but the camera travels with me everywhere.

This section covers my monochrome street photography and travel photography — quiet observations from villages, towns, and cities in the UK and overseas. Those images live in the Home & Away gallery.

Alongside that, I work within urban observation photography — a distinct documentary genre with its own approach, methodology, and visual language. It shares DNA with street photography and travel photography, but it isn't the same thing. Urban observation has its own hub page and its own gallery, because it deserves to be understood on its own terms.

More Than a Pretty Picture — Finding Peace, Purpose and Creative Sovereignty Through Photography.

An honest, reflective look at what photography genuinely gives us in life. This isn't a manual about f-stops, complex camera techniques, or expensive gear guides. Instead, it is a deeply personal exploration of what the act of capturing a single moment does for our mental clarity, focus, and connection to the world beyond the lens itself.

Written for anyone looking to escape the noise of social media algorithms, find their own creative voice, and discover the true purpose behind the images they take.
